Travelling to Mathraki Island
From UK to Corfu
At variable prices according to day and season – Easyjet from Gatwick offers the fastest most direct option 3.0hrs non-stop. The alternatives are a two leg flight with Aegean Airlines or Olympic Air from Heathrow, changing in Athens. A late evening flight from Athens connecting with the first flight next morning will have you in Corfu by 6.30am. A day flight will arrive Corfu at lunchtime or evening.
Onwards to Mathraki Island
All year round the Ferry Zanadu leaves Corfu new harbour stopping on route at another of the three Diapontia islands, Ericoussa. The trip takes approximately 3 hours. At November 2019 Zanadu runs on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays at 6:30 am, arriving at 9.45am and returning from Mathraki around 11am with arrival in Corfu at 2.45pm. There are occasional opportunities to book to transport a car.
Alternatively take a bus or taxi 50 km to the West coast port of Ag. Stefanos and catch the small packet passenger ferry Pegasos . Pegasos leaves at 10:15 am and takes 45 minutes to Mathraki. You will encounter many mathraki island citizens, a few tourists heading for the further islands of Othoni and Ericoussa, provisions, small building supplies, suitcases, small suitcases, bags of shopping and (yes) a toilet. It runs on Monday and Friday plus Wednesday in summertime and returns from Mathraki at approximately 2.30pm arriving back at 3.15pm
Ferry timetables are changeable and it is advisable to check before travelling with Costas at the Dolphin Taverna.
